"Halfway between the city of Orlando and the beautiful beaches of Daytona, lies a quaint incorporated town call DeBary. Within DeBary's walls lies a wonderful retirement community of 250 manufactured homes with a clubhouse, shuffleboard, and heated pool for our enjoyment. This is the place my husband and I call home." "As you turn in to the lovely flowered entrance, the first building you see is the clubhouse, which is beautifully landscaped. This is the hub of just about all our individual and community activities, We meet every Tuesday morning for coffee and donuts with of course, an hour of chitchat among the friends and neighbors who attend. We sometimes have speakers on topics that pertain to health and what's going on around us. We also have HOA meetings, which enlighten us about our park and what's going on in other parks as well." "We have many activities in this park in which all may participate. There are pool tournaments, men's and women's card games, crafts, weekly bingo games and live entertainment or sometimes oldies and goodies tapes. We also have line dancing for those twinkle-toed ladies and, yes, even men. Impromptu pool parties are also a must during the warmer weather." "We also have our own newspaper called the Humming Bird, which is distributed monthly by the block captains. It contains pictures of past events and news on upcoming events in addition to who's who around the block." "The residents in this community take pride in their homes as well as the maintenance of the park. We know that by doing this, the value of our homes will increase rather than decrease. Even more importantly, if someone needs help in this community, we help. Friendship and co-operation are the key words that make this park so special." "Of course the location is wonderful. Especially for retired people. We have access to a bus that can take us to church, shopping and restaurants or, if we choose, we can even walk to the shopping center and a movie. There are doctors and a hospital no more than five minutes away by car. We have everything right at our doorstep!" "We could go on and on about the deep feelings we have for all the people in this park and the compassion we have for one another. We all know that in time of trouble any of us are only a phone call away." "This is indeed the ideal community. What more can I say, except, thank you for giving us the opportunity to express our love for the park and the people I proudly call friends and a place we proudly call home." |
